Waxing is a semi-permanent form of hair removal which removes the hair by pulling it out from the root. New hairs will not grow back in the waxed area for two to six weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different growth cycle or if some hair were too short for the wax to hold on to.

There are 3 phases in a hair growth cycle.....anagen (growth phase), catagen (regressing/transition phase) and telogen (resting phase). Normally up to 90% of the hair follicles on your body are in anagen phase while, 10–14% are in telogen and 1–2% in catagen. The cycle's length varies on different parts of the body. For example, your eyebrows life cycle is complete in around 4 months, while it takes the scalp 2–6 years to be complete. This is why your eyebrow hairs have a much shorter length compared to the hair on your head.

Waxing Contraindications

The following factors are known to make those that are waxed more prone to "skin lifting," where the top layer of skin is torn away during waxing treatment:
Taking blood-thinning medications
Taking drugs for autoimmune diseases, including lupus;
Taking prednisone or steroids
Psoriasis, eczema or other chronic skin diseases
Recent sunburn
Recent cosmetic or reconstructive surgery
Recent laser skin treatment
Severe varicose leg veins
Rosecea or very sensitive skin
History of fever blisters or cold sores (waxing can cause a flare-up)
Using Tretinoin(Avita, Renova, Retin-a), Tazarotene (Tazorac), Adapalene (Differin, Teva, Pimpal, Gallet, Adelen, Adeferin), Azelex, Isotretinoin (Accutane) or any other peeling agent;
Using hydroquinone(topical skin depigmentation)
Recent surgical peel, micro-dermabrasion or chemical peel using glycolic, alpha-hydroxy, salicylic acid, or other acid-based products
PLEASE INFORM OUR THERAPISTS IMMEDIATELY IF ANY OF THESE ABOVE CONTRAINDICATIONS APPLY TO YOU

Pros & Cons

The 'Pros'

It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time.
It is a long-lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to six weeks. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream(Nair), the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. Within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface. With these methods, hair tends to grow back in a rough stubble. Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit regrowth that is softer.
Saves time! One appointment every three to six weeks is way less time than shaving everyday!

The 'Cons'
The main 'con' is that waxing can be painful when the strip is removed from the skin. Although the pain is not long-lasting, it can be intense, particularly in sensitive areas.
Another 'con' of waxing is that some people experience ingrown hairs, red bumps, and minor bleeding from the individual follicle. This is more likely to occur when waxing areas with thicker or coarse hair, especially the first few times when follicles are strongest.

Sugaring

Sugaring is an organic form of hair removal that utilizes a sugar paste. The paste is all-natural made with sugar, water and lemon. It is cooked until it has a taffy-like consistency that looks like honey.

The paste is applied with a gloved hand, moulding the paste against the hair growth so that when the hair is removed in a flicking motion it is being pulled out by the follicle in the same direction as the hair grows. This method reduces hair breakage, ingrown hairs and also removes hair as less than ΒΌ of an inch long. Due to the sugar being water-soluble it can be applied more than once to the same area. It will not adhere to live skin cells or burn your skin. At home regular exfoliation is a must to avoid ingrown hairs.
